چکیده

This paper describes an 8 kbit/s ACELP speech coder with high performance for both speech and non-speech signals such as background noise. While the traditional waveform matching LPAS structure employed in many existing speech coders provides high quality for speech signals, it has significant performance limitations for e.g. background noise. The coder presented here employs a novel adaptive gain coding technique using energy matching in combination with a traditional waveform matching criterion providing high quality for both speech and background noise. The coder has a basic structure similar to that of the 7.4 kbit/s D-AMPS EFR coder, with a 10th order LPC, high resolution adaptive codebook and a 4pulse algebraic codebook. The performance for speech signals is equivalent to or better than that of state-of-the-art 8 kbit/s coders, while for background noise conditions the performance is significantly improved.

ITU-t g.729 extension at 6.4 kbps

This paper describes the 6.4 kbit/s CS-ACELP coder being standardized as annex D to ITU-T G.729. The coder is based on the same building blocks as the 8 kbit/s G.729 to facilitate low complexity extensions to G.729 in terms of additional memory usage. It is fully switchable with the 8 kbit/s coder and provides additional flexibility to existing and emerging G.729 applications. The fixed codeboo...

Hybrid multi-mode/multi-rate CS-ACELP speech coding for adaptive voice over IP

This paper presents a hybrid Multi-Mode/Multi-Rate, toll quality CS-ACELP coder developed for Voice over IP applications. The coder uses coding modes compatible with the three 6.4, 8, and 11.8 kbit/s coding schemes standardised by ITU-T in G.729. In particular, the algorithm presents 4 coding categories, with an average bit rate ranging between about 3 and 8 kbit/s, that adapt the rate to chang...

An 8-32 kbit/s scalable wideband coder extended with MDCT-based bandwidth extension on top of a 6.8 kbit/s narrowband CELP coder

In this paper, we present a 6.8-32 kbit/s scalable speech and audio coder using a modified-discrete-cosine-transform (MDCT)-based bandwidth extension on top of a 6.8 kbit/s code-excited-linear-prediction (CELP) coder. The proposed coder comprises a 6.8 kbit/s narrowband CELP as its corelayer and eight enhancement layers with the bitrates of 0.8, 1.2, 3.2, or 4.0 kbit/s. After encoding of a narr...

Design of a Variable Rate Algorithm for the CS-ACELP Coder

In 1995, 8 kb/s CS-ACELP coder of G.729 is standardized by ITU-T SG15 and it has been reported that the speech quality of G.729 is better than or equal to that of 32 kb/s ADPCM (G.726). However G.729 is the fixed rate speech coder, and it does not consider the property of voice activity in mutual conversation. If we use the voice activity, we can reduce the average bit rate in half without any ...

The Adaptive Multi-rate Speech Coder

In this paper, we describe the Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) speech coder currently under standardization for GSM systems as part of the AMR speech service. The coder is a multi-rate ACELP coder with 8 modes operating at bit-rates from 12.2 kbit/s down to 4.75 kbitls. The coder modes are integrated in a common structure where the bit-rate scalability is realized mainly by altering the quantization ...
